The API is calling for action to resolve the emergency
Extreme temperatures and the summer water crisis are hitting Italian aquaculture hard. Although the sector has tenaciously withstood the drought, – as the API (Italian Fish Farmers’ Association) points out – current production losses have reached critical levels: immediate, structural public intervention is needed.
Small and medium-sized enterprises in the sector are particularly hard hit, including trout and sturgeon farms. Trout is the most commonly farmed fish in Italy, which is also the world’s second-largest producer of sturgeon caviar.
