"GALPA IN NETWORK: COOPERATION FOR LOCAL DEVELOPMENT IN FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE AREAS"

Three days of discussion on possible prospects for environmental and economic sustainability in the fishing sector, looking at new challenges.

Venice, March 20, 2026 – Venice will host the Galpa National Seminar (Local Action Groups for Fisheries and Aquaculture), scheduled from Tuesday, March 24, to Thursday, March 26, at the Don Orione Artigianelli Cultural Center (Dorsoduro 909/a). Representatives of the 28 Galpas active in all of Italy's coastal regions are expected in Venice.

The initiative, now in its second year, is promoted and organized by the Galpa National CLLD Network as part of the Feampa (European Fund for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture) 2021-2027 national program, in collaboration with the Veneto Region and the Venice Flag, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, and the patronage of the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Venice, the Metropolitan City of Venice, and the Municipality of Cavallino-Treporti.

The event, titled "Galpa in Rete: Cooperation for Local Development in Fisheries and Aquaculture Areas," highlights how cooperation between regions is a fundamental and indispensable tool: to increase the capacity of local communities to develop shared strategies and address the various crises facing the fishing industry (from the effects of climate change and the impact of the spread of invasive alien species, to the challenges posed by evolving markets and the need to ensure sustainable management of marine resources, to rising energy costs), as well as to outline new development perspectives.

The national event thus becomes an important opportunity to foster dialogue between Galpa, local and national institutions, and stakeholders, to leverage existing cooperation experiences in various regional contexts, to foster synergies, and to build new partnerships for emerging projects.

Three days packed with plenary meetings, thematic roundtables, and debates, the aim of which will also be to strengthen the role of the GALPAs themselves as key hubs for local development policies in coastal communities and promoters of territorial cooperation, as well as tools for connecting European and local policies.
