The measure allows Member States to provide financial compensation to fishermen, aquaculture businesses and related sectors.
The European Commission has activated the crisis mechanism of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) to address the economic consequences of the conflict in the Middle East, which are hitting the European fisheries sector hard.
“Things are starting to move in the European Union,” comments Cristian Maretti, president of Legacoop Agroalimentare. “Well done for the result achieved following Italy’s proposal and thanks to Minister Francesco Lollobrigida, who has once again demonstrated his support for the sector and his swift action.”
“The proposal came from Italy and Minister Francesco Lollobrigida.”
“The activation of the EMFF crisis mechanism is a first concrete sign of attention being paid to a sector that has been facing an unsustainable rise in costs for months, starting with fuel, and severe market instability,” continues Maretti.
