Presentato il quinto Bilancio di Sostenibilità di Gruppo Felsineo

Commitment to wellness, innovation, safety and inclusion towards “a greener world and a pinker future” strengthened

17, Jun 2025

Zola Predosa (BO), 17 June – The ESG commitment of Gruppo Felsineo, leader in the production of mortadella and vegetable cold cuts, continues with strength, having closed 2024 with a turnover of 56 million euros and a staff of 150 people. The Group has presented its fifth Sustainability Report, which reports on the sustainable commitment and actions put in place to achieve the common benefit objectives developed by the Group's Benefit Companies, Felsineo Spa and FelsineoVeg Srl.

In Gruppo Felsineo's social responsibility strategy, 13 material themes have been identified, attributable to 9 SDGs and have been divided into 4 work areas, thus outlining 4 paths: the Via dei Consumatori, the Via della Filiera, the Via della Vicinanza and the Via dell'Ambiente. Activities related to “Quality, well-being and food safety”, “Responsible supply chain”, “Employee protection and commitment to the community” and “Environmental protection” are organised along these streets.

«Despite a complex scenario, we closed 2024 with optimism, renewing our daily commitment to economic, social and environmental sustainability, with a special focus on the new generations» says Emanuela Raimondi, CEO Gruppo Felsineo. «There is no doubt that companies have a very important social role in the journey towards a better world and in the creation of shared value. Every milestone achieved represents a stimulus for us to continue with actions that combine ethics, transparency, inclusion, and the enhancement of diversity, essential elements to promote progress and stimulate innovation».

Following the requirements of the GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) reporting standard, the 2024 sustainability report and impact report reported the main highlights and highlighted the most significant future objectives.

Quality and Food Safety - The Group obtained the Chain of Custody for a mortadella certified according to the KIWA protocol, which specifies the requirements for animal welfare management and the responsible use of antibiotics. The BRC, IFS and Kosher certifications were then extended to vegetable sliced products, the production and compliance standards were defined for the new cutter dough process and blockchain technology was implemented on the Good&Green Mopur® cereal and legume line references. At the center of future objectives, the increase in higher value certifications and the digitalization of the traceability process of the "white cube", a typical raw material in the production of mortadella.

Wellbeing and Nutrition - Attention was focused on expanding the product range, with the introduction of new mortadellas in natural rind and the expansion of the Good&Green Mopur® line, with the reformulation of some recipes aimed at reducing the salt content. During the year, the "Gruppo Felsineo Open Food Factory" project was presented, dedicated to promoting the culture of healthy and correct nutrition, which passes through the balance between animal and vegetable proteins. At the center of the next steps the development of new products and the improvement of existing ones, always with a focus on health and well-being, involving the new generations through an educational plan conveyed through sport.

Sustainable Supply Chain – The activity focused on the development of increasingly responsible supply chains in terms of traceability, transparency and origin of raw materials, with attention to animal welfare. 2024 saw the launch of the “standard bearer of sustainability” product of FelsineoVeg: KmVERDE. It is an organic product, with 30% proteins, a source of fiber and iodine, whose most important ingredient, red lentil, boasts the characteristic of territorial proximity, so as to reduce emissions related to transport.

Gruppo Felsineo is aware that responsible and transparent procurement, from the flow of raw materials to distribution logistics, represents a fundamental theme to guarantee the quality and healthiness of products, protect its consumers and consolidate relationships with all stakeholders. Therefore, a general purchasing policy has been drawn up that aims to integrate sustainability criteria into the process of selecting, evaluating and monitoring suppliers.

In the future, we will increasingly seek greater synergy upstream to work in full collaboration on sustainability issues.

Innovation – Among the main innovations is the creation of the new Mopur®One product line, within the medallions category, as well as the launch on the market of Mortadella Bologna PGI in cotenna.

For the future, research will continue aimed at new formats, new recipes and new products, always with a view to promptly responding to the needs of the modern consumer.

Employee protection and Commitment to the community – The Group continued to invest in employee training, providing 4,693 hours of training, with an increase of 25% compared to 2023. Of particular importance were the training programs "Academy Design our Future" and "Development of managerial skills", designed to enhance and train the talents of employees and encourage the development of their skills.

Numerous initiatives have been launched to promote diversity, equity and inclusion, and the project "Ethics and Sustainability: Value for People and for the Company" will be launched soon, together with the continuation of the "Academy Design our Future" initiative and the new phase of the "Sensory Analysis" project. Awareness-raising activities on diversity, equity and inclusion will also continue, with the start of the process to obtain the "Gender Equality" certification.

Welfare and safety in the workplace – In line with the common benefit objective concerning the “Protection and Valorization of Employees”, Gruppo Felsineo has chosen to protect the health of its employees through free visits and check-ups, in collaboration with the Italian League for the Fight against Cancer (LILT). In 2024, an oncology visit for early diagnosis of skin melanomas was offered to anyone who wished; this commitment will continue in the future. Listening and involvement activities will then be strengthened at all levels, with particular attention to the conciliation of private life and work.

Commitment to the Community – Support for the community and the territory has focused on the new generations and inclusion. The memoranda of understanding with the Zola Predosa Comprehensive Institute and the Veronelli Institute of Casalecchio di Reno have been renewed, to integrate training and social inclusion; to these has been added the new memorandum of understanding signed with the SIR Consortium of Milan. The laboratory activity “Imagination and good cooking” was crowned with the publication of the book “Goodness calls goodness”, which collects all the recipes developed in the two years of activity carried out with the Modiano Center of Sasso Marconi and the collaboration of the Veronelli students. For the future, the consolidation of the synergy with schools is expected, with awareness-raising activities on sustainability and integration between training and business activities. Finally, an evolution of the “Imagination and good cooking” project is expected through a traveling laboratory that shares the model with other entities in the national territory.

Environmental protection – ISO 50001 certification has been obtained for energy management and improvement of energy performance; the Energy Specialist function has also been internalized. Future objectives include maintaining ISO 50001 certification, improving energy efficiency and starting the decarbonization process, with a commitment to testing new packaging materials to find valid, more eco-sustainable solutions.

Gruppo Felsineo has been synonymous with high-quality mortadella since 1963. Always attentive to combining tradition and innovation, the company selects the best raw materials that, thanks to experience gained over four generations, are processed to create genuine, natural and tasty products. In 2016, FelsineoVeg was inaugurated, the Group company that responds to new consumer trends with Mopur ®, the exclusive brand of plant-based products that offers an alternative to meat or simply the possibility of balancing your diet in a varied and balanced way with the right amount of 100% plant-based proteins. Gruppo Felsineo is strongly committed to the issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability. The initiatives developed by the company, which involve employees, the supply chain and stakeholders, are collected in the Sustainability Report drawn up annually. The company created the food education project Gruppo Felsineo Open Food Factory, the hub born in 2024 dedicated to the dissemination of topics related to correct nutrition and well-being, which uses the support of nutritionists, scientific communicators, experts and athletes to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. In line with the attention and respect for the community and the environment, from 17 December 2021, Felsineo S.p.A. and FelsineoVeg S.r.l. became Benefit Companies.
