The 24-month Parmigiano Reggiano from 4 Madonne Caseificio dell'Emilia Valsamoggia (BO) and the 40-month Parmigiano Reggiano from Società Agricola Caseificio Bucamante di Serramazzoni (MO) won the 13th edition of the Palio del Parmigiano Reggiano ‘Città di Casina’, dedicated to mountain dairies. The competition, held as part of the 59th Parmigiano Reggiano Fair in Casina, saw the participation of 45 dairies.

The Parmigiano Reggiano Palios are competitions that have been held for 13 years in the area of origin of the PDO (which includes the provinces of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Mantua to the right of the Po River and Bologna to the left of the Reno River), in which each consortium dairy can participate by submitting a sample of 24-26 month old Parmigiano Reggiano. The cheeses in the competition are evaluated by a jury composed of certified tasters from the APR (Associazione Assaggiatori Parmigiano Reggiano).

The 9th edition of the traditional cheese cutting competition was also held, a competition that aims to evaluate both the beauty and cleanliness of the cut and the skill in manually portioning the PDO cheese. The gold medal was awarded jointly to Matteo Fantini of Latteria Sociale San Giorgio di Casina (RE) and Gurwinder Singh of 4 Madonne Caseificio dell'Emilia Valsamoggia (BO).
