In summer, Italians do not give up PDO and PGI cheeses

AFIDOP, the Association of Italian PDO and PGI Cheeses, proposes a journey through Italian excellence

Italy, land of saints, poets... and food and wine trips. Over a third of the budget of those who choose the Bel Paese for their holidays is spent on food and drink and travel itineraries that focus on food and wine have grown by 37% from 2016 to today, generating a business of over 12 billion euros (15.1% of total spending on tourism). Interest in experiences in production sites is growing in particular, visited by 74% of Italian tourists between 2020 and 2023. Of these, approximately 30% visited a dairy. A trend confirmed by the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory, which highlighted how tasting typical products will be among the main activities this summer.
