76th Carmagnola Pepper Fair: a tribute to one of Piedmont’s treasures

Promoted by the Municipality of Carmagnola and organised by SGP Grandi Eventi, this event is an unmissable occasion celebrating an undisputed star of the region

07, Aug 2025

Carmagnola is preparing to host the 76th edition of its Pepper Fair, from 29 August to 7 September.

Born under the hot sun of South America, one of the most beloved vegetables in our tradition arrived in the fertile lands of the province of Turin in the early 20th century, thanks to the foresight of horticulturist Domenico Ferrero of Borgo Salsasio. Since then, it has become a valuable crop and a fundamental resource for agriculture and the local economy. The Carmagnola pepper is distinguished by its thick, fleshy pulp, sweet flavour and high vitamin C content, characteristics that set it apart from other peppers.

The Carmagnola pepper comes in several varieties, each with its own personality and culinary use: the Quadrato, the elongated Quadrato, also known as “Bragheis”, the Tomaticot, the Corno di Bue, long and tapered, and the Trottola, heart-shaped with an outward or truncated tip, is an extremely versatile variety that ensures high yields in all culinary preparations.

The Carmagnola pepper is the soul of iconic Piedmontese dishes such as the famous bagna càuda, where its sweetness balances the intensity of garlic and anchovies. But that's not all: it adds a touch of colour and a unique flavour to appetisers, first courses, main courses and side dishes. Thanks to its natural sweetness, it is also excellent for preserves and sauces, creating authentic and unmistakable flavours.
