The actors participating in the CarTES - Charter for Sustainable Food and Wine Tourism project celebrate World Sustainable Gastronomy Day on Wednesday 18 June with the initiative “The Road to Sustainability”. Established by the United Nations in 2016, promoted by the FAO and supported by UNESCO, World Sustainable Gastronomy Day is the event that recognises the value of gastronomy as a cultural expression linked to the natural and cultural diversity of territories and promotes its strategic role in the processes of sustainable development, food transition and social cohesion. It is an occasion to raise awareness among institutions, citizens and economic operators on the urgency of more conscious choices, from production to consumption, and on the educational, economic and environmental value of food. «Sustainability in food and wine tourism is today a necessity, no longer a choice. With CarTES - which includes the Italian Association of Food and Wine Tourism, the National Association of Wine Cities, the National Association of Oil Cities, the Italian Federation of Wine, Oil and Flavour Routes, Terranostra - Coldiretti, Iter Vitis, Unpli - Union of Italian Pro Loco Associations, and the National Council of Food Districts - we want to transform principles into actions, facilitating the meeting between those who offer authentic experiences and those who seek a more conscious way of travelling» says Roberta Garibaldi, president of Aite and creator of the project.
