Manifesto for Biocontrol: concrete support for agriculture

“MANIFESTO FOR BIOCONTROL: CONCRETE SUPPORT FOR AGRICULTURE”

Over the last ten years in Italy the use of agrochemicals has decreased by 18%, while active ingredients, including those of biological origin, have recorded an increase of 133% (source Osservatorio Agrofarma). To face new climate challenges and strengthen the resilience of crops against emerging pathogens, it is crucial to be able to rely on cutting-edge solutions. Biocontrol, which uses substances and organisms of natural origin or identical to them, represents a further solution to support farmers, protect crops effectively, protect biodiversity and soil health.
Agrofarma and FederBio have developed a joint programmatic document, aimed at national and European institutions, asking for a concrete commitment to the development of biocontrol and innovation in agriculture. The Manifesto proposes five lines of intervention to support the competitiveness of Italian agricultural companies: from the definition of biocontrol to the review of authorization processes, up to training programs and dedicated measures in the next CAP.
In collaboration with Sen. Luca De Carlo, Agrofarma and FederBio are organizing an event to present the "Manifesto for Biocontrol", during which the interventions of:
Francesco Lollobrigida* - Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry;
Marcello Gemmato* - Undersecretary of State for Health;
Luca De Carlo - President of the Senate Agriculture Commission;
Maria Grazia Mammuccini - President FederBio;
Paolo Tassani - President of Agrofarma – Federchimica.
Herbert Dorfmann - MEP, Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development;
Dario Nardella - MEP, Commission for Agriculture and Rural Development;
Maria Chiara Zaganelli* - General Director of CREA
