Federpesca: "The government decree is a positive sign, an important signal for the sector."
Federpesca expresses its appreciation for the decision taken by the Council of Ministers meeting this evening, which allocated €10 million to the fishing sector through the recognition of a fuel tax credit, effective immediately and for the second quarter of 2026.
This measure is eagerly awaited by fishing companies and comes at a particularly sensitive time due to the ongoing energy crisis linked to the international context and tensions arising from the ongoing conflict.
"We thank the Government, and in particular Minister Lollobrigida, for their thoughtfulness and timely intervention," stated Federpesca President Azzone. "The fuel tax credit represents concrete support for fishing companies, which are severely impacted by rising energy costs. This measure is an important sign of our support for the sector and our awareness of the difficulties Italian fishing communities are facing."
Federpesca recalls that, along with other industry associations, it had recently requested the convening of a crisis meeting to address the energy emergency and implement a series of urgent measures, including the fuel tax credit.
"The fact that the Government, less than a week after our request, has already provided a concrete and targeted response," continues Federpesca Director Biondo, "is an extremely positive sign and demonstrates its attention and ability to listen to the sector."
Federpesca emphasizes that fuel costs are one of the main expenditure items for fishing businesses and that price trends in recent weeks have significantly impacted the economic sustainability of these activities.
"The action adopted is a step in the right direction. It is essential to continue monitoring energy price trends and ensure structural support measures for the sector to ensure the continuity of businesses and protect employment."
