The 9th edition of AquaFarm, the international exhibition and conference dedicated to aquaculture, artisanal and small-scale fishing, and seaweed production, held at Pordenone Fiere on February 18 and 19, has come to a close. Once again this year, the event proved to be a benchmark for the aquaculture market, attracting over 2,000 participants and offering a rich program of conferences with 25 working sessions, accompanied by a large international exhibition area of 6,000 m² with 120 exhibitors and brands.

There were many highlights during the two days of work. In particular, the speech by Francesco Lollobrigida, Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry, who wanted to confirm the institutional support for the event. Another key moment was the opening session on the second day, organized by MASAF, entitled “Strategies, tools, and actions for sustainable aquaculture development,” with the participation of Graziella Romito, Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry. Other speakers included Pier Antonio Salvador for Copa Cogeca, Federico Pinza, president of AMA – Mediterranean Aquaculture Association, Matteo Leonardi, president of API - Italian Fish Farmers Association, and Valentina Tepidino of Eurofishmarket.

The discussion focused on sustainability, along with issues such as cooperation between institutions and operators, access to funds, training, traceability, regulatory simplification, and social acceptance of the sector. The need emerged to create a system to promote national production and support the growth of aquaculture with concrete tools and coordinated policies.

Renato Pujatti, president of Pordenone Fiere, commented: «AquaFarm has confirmed its status as the most important event for the Mediterranean and Balkan areas on aquaculture issues. It brings together the entire sector, farmers, processors, researchers, and universities every year, and the best technologies in the sector prove to be successful in terms of concrete results and in giving Italian aquaculture the visibility it deserves, trusting that this message will also reach Brussels».

To reinforce the institutional role of the event, the session was also attended by the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, who reiterated his pride in the quality of national food production and emphasized how the recognition of Italian cuisine as intangible cultural heritage is the result of the commitment of the entire supply chain, thanking those working in the fishing industry for their work on quality and safety.

New for 2026 is the first edition of Aqua Fishery, the area dedicated to artisanal and professional fishing hosted within AquaFarm. The event was created to promote the marine and inland water supply chains, encourage innovation, and support the sustainable growth of the fishing industry. Aqua Fishery aims to be a national and international meeting point for companies, institutions, trade associations, and economic operators, a space where the tradition of fishing charts a new course towards the future of the sector.
