To monitor fish stocks, with initiatives for the sustainable use of marine resources
The European Union has launched RecFishing, an innovative digital solution to simplify and streamline the collection of data on recreational fishing catches across all EU marine areas. “This initiative will help increase our collective understanding of fishing activities and promote the sustainable management of fish stocks,” reads a statement from the European Commission.
With new measures introduced in January, the RecFishing platform is set to transform the way data is collected and used by the EU's 22 coastal nations. By simplifying the way information on fish species and stocks is collected, the new platform aims to help authorities make “more informed decisions, ensuring the health and longevity of marine ecosystems.”
