Ravenna Coast Guard seizes 15 tons of untraceable fish
15 tons of fish seized and fines totaling over €170,000. This was imposed by the Ravenna Coast Guard at the end of a wide-ranging inspection session to protect the Romagna fishing industry. The checks covered a wide range of locations, from offshore operations to restaurants.
To be precise, 109 inspections were carried out, including about twenty at sea, 11 at landing points, 40 on means of transport, 15 in restaurants, 6 at fishmongers, 2 at markets, and 12 at large-scale retail outlets. A total of 63 administrative fines were imposed, 51 of which—worth €145,000—were due to violations of catch traceability, labeling, and regulations for the protection of marine resources. The other 12 fines (worth over €25,000) were due to irregularities on fishing vessels found in restricted areas.
