Apulia Region extends extraordinary health measures for a further 36 months
Extraordinary sanitary measures to control the risk of dioxin and polychlorobiphenyls - dioxin-like (Pcb-DL) in mussel production in Taranto, which had already been adopted by previous ordinances of the President of the Apulia Region, have been extended for a further 36 months.
The President's order No. 379 of 05/09/24 was issued on the basis of the results of the monitoring carried out on a three-year basis by the Prevention Department of the Taranto Local Health Authority for the detection of dioxin and Polychlorobiphenyls - Dioxin-like on bivalve molluscs bred in the province of Taranto.
The action taken by the Region began in 2016 when, in mussels bred in the I seno del Mar Piccolo of Taranto, levels of Dioxins and Pcb-DL were found by the Taranto Local Health Authority Veterinary Services, well above the limits set by law.
