The Lombardy Region suspends the ban on introducing non-native species after a five-year halt
The whitefish, the symbolic fish of Lake Garda, will be allowed back into the waters of Lake Garda after a five-year ban on fishing. This was announced by Alessandro Beduschi, Councillor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry for the Lombardy Region. This follows the introduction of Law 182 of 2 December 2025, which suspended the ban on the introduction of non-native species until 31 May 2026.
