The Italian seafood retail sector is growing: more than €4 billion by 2026

Salmon sales in the out-of-home sector have risen by 15.6%, five times more than in the retail sector, driven by sushi, which accounts for 69% of out-of-home consumption

The Italian retail seafood market continues to grow and is set to exceed €4 billion in value by 2026. This was revealed during the 2026 edition of the Norwegian Seafood Seminar, the annual conference organised by the Norwegian Seafood Council, which brought together the main operators and stakeholders from the Italian and Norwegian seafood sectors in Milan during the Tutto Food international trade fair. During the event, data and analyses produced in collaboration with the Norwegian Seafood Council’s research partners were presented, offering an overview of the evolution of seafood consumption in Italy, with a particular focus on Norwegian salmon, salted cod and stockfish.
