Corazzari, “Let's study new supply chains for a medium- and long-term management proposal and support fishermen to incentivise catches”.
“We are studying new supply chains for a medium- and long-term management proposal and we are supporting fishermen to encourage catching”"This new 1.5 million euro project once again sees the Region committed to the blue crab emergency response strategy together with Veneto Agricoltura and the University of Padua. Alongside the invasive species mapping project already launched in collaboration with Arpav, Veneto Agricoltura, and the Universities of Padua and Ca' Foscari, with the support of the Cariparo Foundation, a new phase kicks off today with the aim of encouraging the capture of blue crab specimens and studying possible commercial outlets for that fraction of catches that are unsuitable for food consumption. Only by focusing on new supply chains is it possible to foster the competitiveness of small coastal fishing enterprises, a world that is strategic for us because it represents an important part of our economy, our identity, and our culture. For the two projects underway this year, a total of 3 million euro has been invested between public resources, European funds, and private resources, a demonstration of the importance that the regional administration attaches to the world of fishing and aquaculture'.
The Regional Councillor for Fisheries, Cristiano Corazzari, presents the inter-institutional agreement, approved by deliberation of the Council, for the pilot project aimed at supporting fishermen to encourage the catching of blue crab, as well as at identifying supply chains for the utilisation of the fraction of catches of the alien blue crab species that are unsuitable for food, and at fostering the competitiveness of small-scale coastal fishing enterprises. The project, worth EUR 1,574,700, is financed by PN Feampa 2021-2027 resources to the tune of EUR 1.5 million, with the remainder borne by the three partners: Veneto Region, Veneto Agricoltura and the University of Padua. The planned duration is 18 months with a final deadline of 31 December 2026.
