Damage to catches and equipment belonging to small-scale fishermen
‘The blue crab is not just a problem for the Orbetello Lagoon, but for the entire Tuscan coast. The massive presence of this crustacean, which in recent months and particularly in August has invaded nets and fishing areas, is causing serious damage to the catch and to the equipment of small-scale fishermen.’ This was emphasised by Andrea Bartoli, vice-president of Fedagripesca Toscana, at the end of an inspection of the Ansedonia fish cleaning facility and the subsequent technical meeting with the Orbetello fishermen's cooperative, attended by political and technical institutions.
