FIDAGEL: A limited edition of Sicilian white tuna

The product completes the wide and varied range of the Fidagel brand.

29, Jul 2025

Albacore tuna, better known as Sicilian albacore, has a distinctive pinkish-white color, leaner and softer flesh than yellowfin and bluefin tuna, and a high protein content. The warm waters of Sicily are its natural habitat. Here, it is caught by the vessels of Riposto Pesca, a company operating in Sicily that gave rise to the Fidagel division. The brand, specializing in the production of frozen fish without added ice, has created a limited edition product that embodies its most distinctive values: a connection to the local area; only unglazed fish, which allows for greater product yield; and completely visible thanks to completely transparent packaging that allows consumers to buy what they see. The limited edition product is available in the frozen food section of supermarkets in a fixed-weight 200-gram package, with transparent packaging and a blue band.

This limited edition, which respects the natural seasonality of the fish species and adheres to the established fishing ban, highlights a typically Sicilian specialty with numerous culinary uses thanks to its extraordinary versatility.

"We are the first to process frozen fish, with a three-generation history in the fishmonger's sector behind us," emphasizes Carmelo D'Aita, creator and manager of Fidagel. "Respecting the typical values of the best traditional fishmongers, we strive for excellence, following a few simple, distinguishing principles. With this limited edition, we are shining a spotlight on a premium product from our seas, featuring packaging that highlights its key characteristics. We fish this variety of tuna on our own vessels with a team of 12 specialized and passionate people. Traditionally, we dedicate ourselves to this type of fishing to offer consumers tuna that tastes of Sicily and offers numerous culinary uses."

This product completes the broad and comprehensive range of the Fidagel brand, which includes four seafood categories (seafood and crustaceans, fillets, slices, mollusks) for a total of 24 products featuring only natural fish. In 2024, Fidagel achieved growth in value of +2.7% and in volume of +5.3%. "The constantly improving results demonstrate the soundness of our choices," concludes D'Aita. "We have designed and developed a method that differentiates us from our competitors and allows us to provide a product that appears freshly caught, reminiscent of fish sold in a traditional fishmonger's."
