Francesca Biondo, director of Federpesca, was the keynote speaker at the meeting on "Sustainability, Innovation, and Cooperation in the Blue Economy for the Adriatic Sea."
Ancona, July 15, 2025 - "Another step forward toward shared management." Francesca Biondo, director of Federpesca, summarized the morning's work in Ancona on "Sustainability, Innovation, and Cooperation in the Blue Economy for the Adriatic Sea." The meeting at the Loggia dei Mercanti in Ancona featured the ministers of Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, and Slovenia, along with Minister Francesco Lollobrigida and Undersecretary Patrizio La Pietra.
"Adriatic seafood must be protected," explained MASEF Undersecretary Patrizio La Pietra. "Collaboration with science and with European countries is important to ensure shared regulations. But more flexible management is needed; the recovery of fish stocks cannot be achieved solely by reducing fishing days and fishing areas. We must find a way to manage it effectively while safeguarding the role of fishermen."
And the Ancona event provided a new opportunity to enhance and strengthen cooperation with countries on the other side of the Adriatic. "The goal is always the same," concluded Francesca Biondo, "to put the role of fishermen and the social and economic sustainability of a primary sector that is crucial to the food security of the country and Europe back at the center of our economies."
In her conclusions, Minister Lollobrigida reiterated how cooperation with other Mediterranean countries is essential to defending and revitalizing the fishing sector, countering European policies that have led to the desertification of the Italian and European fishing fleets over the past 20 years, to the benefit of others. "The government's commitment," the Minister emphasized, "is aimed at supporting the competitiveness of businesses by simplifying the onboarding of foreign seafarers, providing training to address staff shortages, and modernizing the fishing fleet. Without forgetting the role of aquaculture in ensuring food security for European citizens."
