ASSEMBLY OF THE VENETIAN FLAG: STRATEGIC INTERVENTIONS FOR FISHING AND AQUACULTURE APPROVED. THANKS TO THE VENETIAN FLAG'S CALLS FOR PROPOSALS: MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION EUROS FOR THE FISHING WORLD
Caorle, 14 March 2025 - The Assembly of the Venetian FLAG, a key meeting for the management of the fishing and aquaculture sector in the maritime compartment of Venice, concluded today at the Caorle Fish Market. The Assembly, chaired by Antonio Gottardo and composed of institutional representatives and sector operators, discussed the main developments in the implementation of the F.A.R.I. Action Plan and outlined the next investment strategies.
The Assembly of the Venetian FLAG is composed of: Municipality of Caorle, Municipality of Cavallino-Treporti, Municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento, Municipality of Venice, Metropolitan City of Venice, Chamber of Commerce of Venice Rovigo, AGCI - General Association of Italian Cooperatives, A.M.A. - Mediterranean Aquaculture Association, Coldiretti Venice, Confcooperative Venice Metropolitan City, Regional League of Cooperatives, CIA Italian Farmers Veneto, CIV - Venetian Fish Consortium, OP Bivalvia Veneto, OP I Fasolari, VeGAL - lead partner.
During the work, the progress of the measures already started was analysed. Eighteen applications for support were received, for a total requested contribution of €1,259,422.99, against a budget of €1,325,000. The applications have been submitted for the following actions: 1.A.1 Support to enterprise operations, 1.B.1 Creation of new market opportunities, 1.C.1 Reactivation of production in the Venice and Caorle Lagoons, 1.C.2 Support to the development of aquaculture activities in the lagoon area, 2.A.1 Support to the energy transition of enterprises and ports, 6.
Another central theme of the Assembly was the strengthening of cooperation among the Upper Adriatic FLAGs. In particular, they will work on common projects to support small-scale fishing, re-launch fish markets and manage the proliferation of alien species.
Finally, the plan for the next calls for proposals in 2025 was outlined, with resources earmarked for key sectors such as energy transition, sustainable fishery waste management, innovation in aquaculture facilities, and the redevelopment of fishing villages. The Assembly confirmed the Venetian FLAG's commitment to promoting sustainable development of the fishing sector, with actions aimed at ensuring competitiveness and environmental protection.
Antonio Gottardo (Presidente del FLAG Veneziano): “La partecipazione ai bandi dimostra, nonostante la crisi accertata e in corso della molluschicoltura veneta a causa del granchio blu, dei cambiamenti climatici e della moria delle vongole in mare, quanto il settore della pesca e dell’acquacoltura necessiti di strumenti concreti per sostenere il proprio sviluppo. Le risorse messe a disposizione sono state interamente richieste, e il FLAG Veneziano lavorerà per garantire che anche le domande eccedenti possano trovare una risposta adeguata. La cooperazione tra FLAG dell’Alto Adriatico rappresenta un passo decisivo per affrontare le sfide legate alla piccola pesca e ai mercati ittici, fondamentali per l’economia locale. Al tempo stesso, la gestione della proliferazione delle specie aliene, come il granchio blu, richiede interventi coordinati e soluzioni innovative. Il nostro impegno è quello di coniugare tradizione e innovazione per rafforzare il settore ittico, rendendolo sempre più sostenibile ed economicamente competitivo”.
