Veneto Region gives green light to service centers for fishermen and aquaculture
Portogruaro, 10 June 2025 – The fishing and aquaculture sector of the Venetian coast can count on a new and significant step forward: the Veneto Region has approved, through a specific Decree, the granting of funding to the first five projects presented by the Venetian FLAG – Local Action Group for Fishing and Aquaculture.
An expected result, which represents the concrete start of a new season of interventions to support the communities of the sea and lagoons, based on the enhancement of services, management innovation and environmental sustainability.
The projects, presented by the main trade associations – Legacoop, Confcooperative, CIA, Coldiretti and AGCI – concern the activation of territorial service centers available to fishermen and aquaculturists operating along the entire Venetian coast. These are facilities designed to support businesses in the ecological transition, strengthen professional training, improve access to markets and provide operational tools to address the structural challenges that the sector is experiencing, from the shellfish farming crisis to the management of invasive alien species.
Antonio Gottardo, President of the Venetian FLAG, commented on the result as follows: “The approval of these first five projects confirms the quality of the work carried out in recent months within the FLAG partnership. It is a milestone that is the result of shared action aimed at responding to the real needs of the territory. The service centers will not be simple counters, but real hubs of innovation and support for sea professionals. We must provide concrete answers to a sector that is facing profound transformations: these structures will be a valuable tool for increasing the resilience of businesses and promoting more sustainable management of fish resources.”
The regional approval was also followed by the applause of the Regional Councilor for Fisheries Cristiano Corazzari, who declared: “We are faced with a strategic intervention that aims to support the identity and economic vitality of our coastal communities. The Veneto Region continues to invest in fishing and aquaculture as key sectors for environmental balance, food quality and local employment. The role of the Venetian FLAG is confirmed as central in implementing these policies: the approved projects promote an integrated and innovative vision of maritime development, and contribute to strengthening the productive fabric of our lagoons.”
These first interventions are part of the implementation of the FARI Action Plan (Future, Environment, Resources, Innovation), the strategic tool of the Venetian FLAG within the FEAMPA 2021–2027, and anticipate a new season of calls for proposals that will be published in the coming days. The new measures will be aimed at:
supporting the energy transition of fishing companies;
promoting pilot projects for the processing and transformation of fish products;
encouraging innovation in aquaculture plants;
enhancing villages and maritime identities.
The Venetian FLAG, with the support of VeGAL as leader and the Veneto Region, therefore continues its commitment to building a more competitive, sustainable and integrated fishing and aquaculture ecosystem in the territory, capable of facing the challenges of contemporaneity without giving up its history.
