Exactly one year ago, videos and accounts of the exceptional and intense natural phenomenon of the slime that affected the coasts of the central and upper Adriatic last summer appeared on social networks. The fishermen's alarm was immediately received by the Alliance of Italian Cooperatives (represented by Legacoop Agroalimentare, AGCI/Agrital and Confcooperative/Fedagri Pesca) who took action on several fronts involving the Ministry of Agricultural Policies and Food Sovereignty, the Governors of the Adriatic regions from Friuli Venezia-Giulia to Puglia but also the Regional Agencies for environmental protection, the National Research Centre (CNR) and the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), asking for the immediate activation of compensation and social protection measures for workers in all affected fishing professions, also evaluating the anticipation of the 2024 fishing ban to identify the different and most suitable solutions aimed at limiting the effects caused by the slime (increase in fuel consumption and related costs, damage to gear, damage to production as it is not marketable, etc.) in favor of all fishing systems. fishing (trawling, hydraulic dredges, gillnets, etc.) in addition to mussel and shellfish farming, which are an important component in Emilia-Romagna.
