An invisible challenge: the emotional and psychological impact of health emergencies on farmers

Giornata della Suinicoltura (Pig Farming Day) in Modena, 15 October 2025 RMH Hotel –  8.30 am)

01, Oct 2025

With the easing of restrictions authorised in the provinces of Pavia, Lodi and Novara, as decided by the European Commission on 17 September, the measures implemented just over a year ago by the Commissioner's office in the fight against African Swine Fever (ASF) have proven their effectiveness, even if, as Special Commissioner Giovanni Filippini always emphasises, it is not yet time to let our guard down.

For this reason, among the various topics to be discussed at the next edition of Giornata della Suinicoltura (Pig Farming Day), organised by Expo Consulting srl and to be held in Modena on 15 October 2025 at the RMH Hotel starting at 8.30 a.m., there will be an update on the epidemiological trend of the disease.

However, the outbreaks that affected several farms in the north-west of the country in the summers of 2023 and 2024 and the need to block the movement of pigs in areas that, although unaffected, were located in restricted zones, have left an indelible emotional and psychological mark on farmers.

The latter aspect will be addressed by Pig Farming Day and represents a major development for the sector, one that has never been dealt with before.
