A historic day for the Sicilian agri-food sector: the application for registration of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) has been officially submitted.
The application for registration of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for fresh meat and processed products from the Nebrodi Black Pig has been officially submitted.
The announcement came during the closing event of the GAL Nebrodi Plus Operational Project. The required technical and scientific documentation has been completed and submitted in full compliance with current regulations.
The initiative was promoted by Gal Nebrodi plus (GAL Nebrodi Plus is an association of public bodies and private companies aimed at supporting agriculture, biodiversity, local tourism and the enhancement of the territory, within the framework of the European Union's LEADER approach).
In addition, thanks to an innovative procedure, a single application was submitted for six products: fresh meat, capocollo, lard, guanciale, raw ham and cooked ham from pigs reared, processed and matured in the Nebrodi area.
