In September, the profitability of Italian closed-cycle pig farming recorded a further increase, up 2.2% compared to August, according to data processed by Crefis (www.crefis.it). The improvement was supported by the increase in prices for heavy slaughter pigs intended for the production of PDO hams, which rose to €2.183/kg (+2.5% on a monthly basis), a factor that offset the slight recovery in feed costs during the fattening period. Compared to the same month in 2024, when profitability reached record levels, profitability is down 5.4%.
