Pig prices rise and production costs fall
August saw a further increase in profitability for Italian farmers operating in the closed cycle. The Crefis index (www.crefis.it) shows a 6.8% increase compared to July, supported by a sharp rise in the prices of heavy slaughter pigs destined for the PDO circuit, which rose to €2.130/kg (+6.8% on a monthly basis and +2.8% on an annual basis). The containment of feed costs has contributed to consolidating this improvement. Compared to the same month in 2024, profitability is slightly higher (+0.7%).
