Satisfaction expressed by Legacoop Agroalimentare
"This is the request we had put forward, so we are naturally pleased. Thank you to everyone who worked to bring about this reduction." This was the comment from Cristian Maretti, President of Legacoop Agroalimentare, regarding Eni’s announcement that, starting today, it is extending the price reduction on fuels sold by Enilive to the agricultural and fishing sectors.
Diesel and gasoline for agricultural and fishing vessel use can now be purchased with a 20% discount (excluding VAT). The measure will remain in effect until October 31, with the possibility of extending it through the end of the year, depending on market trends and product availability.
The move follows a request raised by Legacoop Agroalimentare. The decision comes after the price cap introduced at Enilive stations on September 28 initially failed to cover sectors that purchase fuel via wholesale channels—specifically agriculture and fishing. Just two days ago, Maretti had highlighted the need to extend the fuel cost intervention to these sectors as well.
"We had pointed out," Maretti emphasizes, "that simply addressing the price at the pump was not enough, because agriculture and fishing have different procurement methods, and fuel costs directly impact production costs."
An intervention on production costs. For Legacoop Agroalimentare, the reduction announced by Eni represents a concrete measure addressing one of the major cost items for agricultural and fishing businesses—particularly during a period marked by high volatility in energy prices. Just last spring, the cost of filling up a fishing vessel had jumped from €1,500 to nearly €3,000 in the span of a few days. "The 20% reduction," continues Maretti, "is a significant signal for businesses that use fuel daily in their production activities—ranging from land cultivation and harvesting operations to fishing. It is a measure that aligns with the direction we advocated and can help ease cost pressures."
Now, continuity is required. "We are pleased that our request has been heeded," concludes Maretti. "It is now crucial that this measure be sustained and that the benefits actually reach agricultural and fishing enterprises. Energy costs remain a key factor for the competitiveness of our cooperatives and agri-food supply chains. For this reason, we will continue to monitor market trends and call for measures that provide concrete solutions for businesses."
