Statement by the President of Oi Intercarneitalia, Alessandro De Rocco
"I would like to thank Undersecretary La Pietra for convening at the Ministry the Beef Cattle Breeding Sector Table, which had not been convened since 2009,' said Alessandro De Rocco, President of Oi Intercarneitalia, who spoke this morning in the Sala Cavour at the opening of the meeting, coordinated by the Undersecretary himself.
‘Eight Ministers have passed since then,’ said La Pietra, "and in agreement with Minister Lollobrigida we have organised this first political meeting to lay the foundations for a strategic Sector Plan for beef cattle breeding, which will go beyond this legislature.
Numerous speeches were made by the representatives of the Organisations present, all oriented towards reiterating the need to organise a Plan with the breeding and rearing of beef cattle (red meat and white meat calves) at the centre, to protect and increase the national livestock population, since there is a shortage of restocking and we depend too much on foreign countries.
Peremptory and effective was Undersecretary La Pietra in dictating the guidelines at the end of the meeting: I ask all those present to send written contributions on what and how to intervene, by 30 May, to start writing the Sector Plan that will then be brought to the attention of the State-Regions Conference.
'At last a Government willing to get to the heart of the sector's problems by involving the breeders and all the components of the supply chain,' De Rocco said at the end of the meeting.
